Curaçao has been without power for hours on Monday. The electricity went out around 9.15 am (local time) and it is likely that it will take hours before the outage is remedied, various Curacao media report.
The power failure is said to have been caused by an explosion in a transformer house on the grounds of the Isla refinery.
According to curacao.nu , technicians from electricity supplier Aqualectra are working hard on a solution, but it can take hours before the problem is remedied.
The electricity regularly breaks out on Curaçao, but it was the last time in 2006 that the entire island was 'in the dark'.
