Bavarian Interior Minister: Death threats against the Greens: Herrmann demanded harsh punishment

Berlin (AP) - Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann is horrified by the death threats against the Green politicians Cem Özdemir and Claudia Roth and calls for severe penalties for the sender.

«The ugly threats of alleged right-wing extremists against Mr Özdemir and Mrs Roth are unspeakable and an attack on liberal democracy as a whole,» said the CSU politician to the newspapers of the Funke media group. "From members of parliament to representatives of a local parliament: Everyone in our country has the right to express their opinions freely in the political debate and to exercise a mandate without being exposed to threats." The newspapers of the Funke media group had previously reported on a Drohmail to the office of the Turkish-born Member of Parliament Özdemir.
