November 03, 2019 Twenty families were evacuated to Castel San Giorgio (Salerno) following the flooding of canals and streams that occurred today. The order was signed by the mayor Paola Lanara following the technical inspections carried out in the villages of Torello, Aiello, Campomanfoli and Santa Croce. The displaced families will be hosted in hotels, B & bs and residences in the area.

"The number of people affected by the measure could increase if the water and debris present in the rolling basin, in the Valesana area, were to overflow causing the flooding of the whole area on the border with Siano", reads a note issued by the Municipality which, in the evening, proceeded to ask for a state of calamity. For mayor Lanzara what happened is "a direct consequence of the fires this summer". The mayor also arranged for the schools to close tomorrow. The same decision was taken by the mayor of Siano, Giorgio Marchese who, at the same time, ordered the evacuation of the residents of the red zone (via Martin Luther King, piazza Santa Maria delle Grazie, via Vignolia and via Fondovalle). Approximately 180 people reside in that area and there are two non-hospital residential facilities. The decision was necessary because the rain gauge has exceeded the emergency threshold. The Municipality has set up a reception center in the via Botta school.

The alert also remains in Nocera Inferiore where the evacuation of about 100 families living in the foothills has been placed as a precaution since this morning. The order will remain in force throughout the night and, if you wish, you can go to the center of Via Loria. The mayor Manlio Torquato has ordered the closure of the schools, like the colleagues of Pagani, Sarno, Roccapiemonte and San Marzano sul Sarno.

The wave of bad weather has also caused discomfort in the Irno Valley. This afternoon in Pellezzano a 33-year-old man who went to the mountains to look for mushrooms was dispersed. The young man lost his bearings due to bad weather and was found by civil protection volunteers and men from the Alpine and Speleological Rescue Service of the Campania Region. In Corbara, on the other hand, a piece of road has collapsed just a few meters from the town and the mayor Pietro Pentangelo has signed an urgent order for the ban on transit only for heavy vehicles, articulated vehicles and trucks.
