November 02, 2019 In the last 10 years, at least 881 journalists have been killed in the world for telling the truth, while 44 have died so far in 2019 alone. In nine cases out of 10, the murders go unpunished. The data is released by UNESCO on World Day to end impunity for crimes against journalists.

The director-general of the United Nations organization for education, science and culture, Audrey Azoulay, defines these data as "worrying". This year, November 2 focuses on local journalists, he emphasizes, through the #KeepTruthAlive campaign to challenge the perception that murders take place only far from the public eye, mainly affecting foreign war correspondents.

And in a note Azoulay writes: "It turns the spotlight on local journalists working on corruption and politics in non-conflict situations, which accounted for 93% of journalist deaths in the last 10 years. UNESCO calls on all those who respond they put journalists at risk, who kill them and do nothing to stop this violence. The end of a journalist's life should never be the end of the search for truth ".
