“The UN Refugee Agency is concerned about the United States decision today announced for the third consecutive year to significantly reduce the number of refugees who will be accepted for resettlement in the United States this year,” the UNHCR message says.
It is noted that the maximum refugee level of 18 thousand people "sends a counterproductive signal to other countries."
Earlier, the American leader Donald Trump instructed to establish a limit on entry into the US of 18 thousand refugees in 2020.
It was clarified that such a threshold "is due to humanitarian considerations and national interests."
It was also reported that these quotas will be issued for certain categories of citizens: in particular, for representatives of religious minorities, citizens of Iraq, El Salvador, Guatemala and Hondura.
