The 59-year-old former mayor of the city of Kiselevsk in the Kemerovo region, Sergey Lavrentyev, was the victim of an attack by unknown persons, the regional department of the Russian Investigative Committee for Kuzbass reported. According to the agency, the murder was reported late in the evening on October 31 (23:40 local time; 19:40 Moscow time).

According to available information, Lavrentyev’s wife noticed the light from a flashlight and the silhouettes of two people in the area of ​​their private home. When she told her husband about this, he took a hunting rifle and left the house.

“The investigation will have to establish the motives for the crime, the identity of the second person who has disappeared from the scene of the crime. The investigation is working out all possible versions of what happened, including an attempt to commit a robbery, ”the agency said in a statement.

According to preliminary data, the second killed was a resident of a neighboring city at the age of about 40 years. A criminal case has been instituted on the fact of the murder under Part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code (“Murder committed by a group of persons”). Production was transferred to the apparatus of the investigative department in the Kemerovo region. The Kuzbass prosecutor’s office also put in control an investigation into this murder.

59-year-old Sergey Lavrentiev came to work in the Kiselevsk administration in November 2002. Initially, he held the post of first deputy head of the city, and in March 2003 he headed the Kiselevsky city district. He worked as a mayor for 15 years - until 2018. In 2012, at the request of the townspeople, he was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Kiselevsk.

However, in 2013, Lavrentiev was at the center of the scandal due to the construction of a mansion in the conservation area near the Chumysh River. On this occasion, civil activists appealed to the prosecutor's office, the plot about the mayor appeared on the TV channel "Russia".

Before taking the chair of the mayor, Lavrentiev was actively engaged in business. According to the Kontur.Fokus database, in the early 2000s Lavrentyev led three enterprises: ZAO Taybinets Transport Company, Spartak LLC and Sokolovskoye Mine Construction Management OJSC. Now these enterprises, according to the register, are liquidated.

According to Interfax, citing a source, the second killed was 45-year-old Marat Garipov. He was already convicted under Art. 111 of the Criminal Code (“Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm”). It is reported that when law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene of the incident discovered him, he was dressed in camouflage clothing and a mask with slits for the eyes.

A full namesake of the murdered man leads the rescuers in the city of Belovo. Interfax contacted the "Agency for the Protection of the Population and Territory of Kuzbass", where they reported that Garpipov did not go to work and did not answer calls.

The fact that the murdered name is Marat Garipov was also confirmed by the source of TASS in law enforcement agencies. He also told the agency that there were at least three attackers.
