US President Donald Trump said he would move his permanent residence from New York to Palm Beach, Florida, saying he was "treated very badly" in his home city.

"We will make my family and I, Palm Beach, Florida, our permanent residence," the president wrote on Twitter.

"I cherish New York and New Yorkers, and I will always be, but unfortunately, even though I pay millions of dollars in city, state and local taxes every year, I have been treated very badly by city and state political officials," he said.

According to a report in the New York Times, Trump - a New Yorker - and his wife Melania, issued personal residence permits in September, changing the headquarters from Manhattan to Palm Beach.

Trump, born in New York, grew up in Queens and later moved to Manhattan. Trump Tower has his residence as well as his real estate company.

The New York Times said White House officials refused to disclose the reasons for Trump's decision, but quoted a source close to the president as saying it was mainly for tax reasons.

In addition to the White House, the Trump family will be based in the Maralago resort, where the president has spent 99 days since taking office, compared with 20 days at his former headquarters at the Trump Tower in New York.

Trump has owned the Palm Beach resort of Mar Alago since 1985.

"I hate having to make this decision, but in the end it will be better for all the people involved," the president tweeted.
He added that New York "will always have a special place in my heart."

But New York did not always love each other.

In the latest of these positions in early October, a federal judge in the South New York area rejected an effort by the president not to disclose his private and commercial tax revenues accumulated for years.

There is a dispute between Republican Trump, New York City Mayor Bill de Palacio and Democrat Governor Andrew Como.

New York officials seem to agree that Trump made the right decision. State Governor Andrew Como wrote on Twitter, "We are relieved of you." "Where have you thrown ... Florida," Como said in a tweet.

De Palacio also used Twitter to say, "Filter quickly, it's unfortunate." "In any case, Donald Trump was not paying taxes here." "It's all yours, Florida."
