October 31, 2019The unemployment rate rises in September, growing by 0.3 percentage points to 9.9%. In three months, since July 2019, the fewest employed are 60,000. According to Istat, which points out that job seekers have increased by 3%, that is 73,000 in the last month.

The growth in unemployment affects both men and women and involves all age groups except for 25-34 year olds. "After the employment growth recorded in the first half of the year and the peak reached in June, starting from July the employment levels turn out to be slightly but steadily declining, with the loss of 60 thousand employees between July and September", writes the Istat communicating the September employment figures.

September data
In the month, explains the statistical institute, the estimate of the employed is slightly down (-0.1%, equal to -32 thousand people) compared to August, while the employment rate remains stable at 59.1% The overall estimate inactive between 15 and 64 years of age in September is down (-0.6%, equal to -77 thousand units) for both gender components. The inactivity rate drops to 34.3% (-0.2 percentage points).

Quarterly data
In the third quarter the drop in the number of people seeking employment (-1.9%, equal to -48 thousand) and a slight decrease in the inactive between 15 and 64 years (-0.1%, -9 thousand). Over the twelve months Istat recorded a drop in the number of unemployed (-4.8%, or -129 thousand units) and inactive people aged 15-64 (-1.0%, -137 thousand) .
