A rare haute couture jacket created by Yves Saint Laurent in tribute to Van Gogh's "Sunflowers", considered an iconic piece in the history of fashion, will be auctioned on November 27 in Paris, Christie's has announced.

Presented for the spring-summer sewing collection 1988, this jacket, entirely hand-made for 600 hours by the Lesage embroidery, lined with silk satin, has only four copies.

The one worn by Naomi Campbell during the parade, is kept in the collections of the museum Yves Saint Laurent, among the emblematic pieces of the work of the designer who was also inspired by "Iris" Van Gogh for another model.

"My intention was not to measure myself to the masters, at the very least to approach them and learn from their genius," Yves Saint Laurent said at a 2004 exhibition dedicated to the dialogue between the arts.

The copy auctioned and made for a private customer, is estimated between 80,000 and 120,000 euros, which would make it one of the most expensive haute couture pieces in the world.
