The disputed cable car, which is supposed to go from the Järntorget to the Wiesel border square, began planning in 2015. Initially, it was expected that it would cost around a billion to build, but in the spring landed the cost proposal of four billion.

Since then, the traffic office, together with Västtrafik, has investigated - and how - it could halve the costs. Something that is a must for the building to get rid of.

Easier stops and fewer gondolas

The results of the investigation were presented at a press conference on Wednesday, and the cheapest price was just above the target.

- We have almost succeeded in the task of building a three-station solution instead of four. Not quite, but almost. Our proposal is to be seen as an answer to the question if you can at all manage to build a cable car for a significantly lower price, and there the answer is yes, says Christer Niland.

In order to cut costs, a number of different measures have been proposed.

- We have simplified the design of the stations, reduced the number of gondolas in circulation and the towers are much simpler in their design than what won the design competition a few years ago, says Christer Niland.

West traffic has explored other possibilities

Västtrafik has looked at other solutions to improve public transport from the center to Hisingen, and then focused on more conventional means of transport. However, Christer Niland believes that it is difficult to achieve the same capacity as the cable car.

- I find it difficult to see anything that can do the same work, to manage that capacity and robustness within the same time and budget, he says.
