The Pentagon published on Wednesday the first images of the US military operation that ended the life of the leader of the Islamic State (EI) terrorist group, Abu Bakr el Bagdadi, and confirmed that he threw his remains into the sea in the 24-hour period that followed at his death

"Al Baghdadi's remains were 'buried' at sea according to the law of armed conflicts within 24 hours after his death," General Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr. told a news conference at the Pentagon. , which directs the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM).

McKenzie Jr. exhibited black and white photos and videos showing the farm surrounded by a wall in which Al Bagdadi was hiding, a building located in the Syrian town of Barisha, located just six kilometers from the Turkish border, in the province of Idlib.

"The assault forces surrounded these facilities and we asked those inside to repeatedly leave peacefully," said McKenzie Jr., who said that all who left the building were arrested and searched to see if they had weapons and, subsequently, were released.

Among the members of the group that went abroad there were eleven minors, explained the general while showing the videos.

Also, McKenzie Jr. said that during the raid, six members of the IS (four women, Al Baghdadi and another man) died, who were inside the building and posed a "threat" to the US military, and did not obey the special forces that shouted at them in Arabic to surrender.

Already inside the building, the US military discovered that Al Bagdadi was hiding inside a tunnel.

"When the capture of the US special forces was imminent, Al Bagdadi detonated a bomb, killing himself and two small children who accompanied him," he said.

Initially, the US said the terrorist was accompanied by three minors, but, after several investigations, they now claim that there were actually two children.

After Al Bagdadi committed suicide, US forces collected his DNA to prove that he was indeed the leader of the IS, the most wanted terrorist since the death of the head of the Al Qaeda network, Osama bin Laden, in an American operation in 2011

Bin Laden's body was also thrown into the sea. Specifically, in 2011, the USS aircraft carrier Carl Vinson transported the terrorist to the northern Arabian Sea and there his body was washed and wrapped in a white sheet, as prescribed by Islamic law.

Later, an American military man recited verses that were translated into Arabic and the remains of Bin Laden were deposited in the sea.

In the case of Al Bagdadi, it is still unknown exactly what the procedure was.

The US prefers to throw the remains of well-known terrorist leaders to the sea to prevent their graves from becoming places of worship.
