Meghan Markle, who is an American and has an African-American mother and a white father, married British Prince Harry 2018. Since then, she has endured night hatred and racism - and has been constantly watched over by British press.

After the tabloid The Mail on Sunday recently published a private letter, which Meghan wrote to his father Thomas Markle, the prince couple got enough.

The Duchess sued the newspaper, while her husband Prince Harry issued a public statement accusing the British press of waging a "reckless campaign" against his wife - which also escalated after the son Archie was born. He also drew parallels to the media coverage of his mother Princess Diana.

"My biggest fear is that history will repeat itself," he wrote, referring to Princess Diana being chased by paparazzi photographers before she died.

"We stand by your side"

Now 72 female politicians, all of whom are members of the British Parliament, join the duchess. In an open letter, they accuse the press of writing about Meghan with "outdated, colonial undertones," reports CNN.

"We expect the media to have integrity enough to know when a story is of national interest, and when it is merely trying to break down a woman for no apparent reason," the politicians write, continuing:

"As women in Parliament with different backgrounds, we stand by your side when it comes to not letting this go unchallenged".

Meghan near tears

In an interview with ITV News recently published, the Duchess of Sussex struggled to hold back tears when the reporter asked her how she has been measuring lately.

- Thanks for asking. Not many people have asked if I am okay, but it is a very real thing to go behind the scenes, Meghan replied.
