For three weeks, the police have had a targeted effort against sex purchases in Jönköping. 19 men have been arrested after detention, 17 are suspected of buying sexual services and two are tried for the same crime.

"We make this kind of effort every year," says Anna Sjunnesson, group manager of the intervention activities in the police area of Södra Vätterbygden. The men have been arrested in hotels and apartments.

The arrests have taken place after a period of internal and external investigations, the police have been able to find the women via advertisements on the internet, for example various escort sites, and then searched the apartments or hotels they suspect they sold sex from. The men have been revealed when they visited the apartments.

- After this year's efforts, we have noticed that this type of business has to a greater extent been moved from the hotels to apartments that are rented for a short time. This may be due to the cooperation that exists between the hotels and the police, where the hotels have become very good at sounding alarms when it is suspected that prostitution is ongoing, says Sjunnesson.

Several of the women travel here

Police say there are about 10 women who have sold six, two of whom are Swedes, while the others come from African countries, Romania and Spain. The women are not suspected of any crime. Nor is there anyone suspected of procrastination.

- We do a survey of the women, but at the moment no one is suspected of having taken the girls here and used them for sex purchases. However, we see that several people travel here in company with each other, says Anna Sjunnesson.
