In a debate article in the Aftonbladet, Prosecutor Lisa Dos Santos is addressing, among other things, radio advertising from law firms that she believes is aimed at criminals. An advertising snippet starts with sounds from an airport and information about a flight on its way from Colombia, then the advertising voice says: “Do you get onion rings as you approach the customs filter? Then it's time to get a really good defense lawyer ”.

- I react to the fact that as a lawyer who abides by ethical rules and also gets paid from the Treasury, he is marketing himself to people who have a criminal lifestyle and I think that the victims' perspective is left out, says Lisa Dos Santos to SVT's "Crime of the Week: The Editorial Board" .

Macho culture in the courtroom

The rougher jargon has also entered the courtroom, says Dos Santos. Nowadays, she says, prosecutors can be interrupted and questioned in a way that has nothing to do with the legal process. Dos Santos gives examples of how she herself has become personally accumulated.

- A lawyer said in a plea that as a prosecutor, I "had taken a course in how to build a prosecution without having any evidence".

Both withholding and batting

Lisa Dos Santos is careful to point out that the vast majority of attorneys act ethically correct but that it is a course change in progress and that the issue needs to be raised. She has received support from both lawyers and prosecutors, but critics have also emerged.

Attorney Johan Ericsson, who himself has defended in many criminal cases, thinks that Dos Santos is both right and wrong in his criticism.

- I agree that this type of advertising is not good. It can be perceived as a defender identifying himself with the attitude that applies to criminal persons, which you should be careful about, says Johan Ericsson.

The courts have a responsibility

He also agrees that the tone in the courtrooms has become tougher but believes that the prosecutors also have a tougher attitude. Here he believes that the courts must be better at controlling the negotiations.

- It is the court that directs the negotiations and they should react when the tone becomes too crazy.
