INTERVIEW

Fewer and fewer candidates for the help-seeking contest for growing needs. This is one of the observations drawn by the report made Tuesday by the former Minister of Labor, Myriam El Khomri, Agnès Buzn, Minister of Health and Solidarity. Guest of Nathalie Lévy, Myriam El Khomri offers solutions to boost recruitment.

"Every year, 60,000 health care posts are open and unfilled," says Myriam El Khomri. It must be said that in six years, the number of contestants has dropped by a quarter. "Today, the competition for access to training has become a brake," she says. To revive recruitment, the former minister advocates its removal. "Instead, empathy, patience and willingness to help candidates should be examined."

17% of caregivers live below the poverty line

At the origin of the disaffection of the trade, there are the precarious conditions of exercise, in particular the small share of CDI, the important transport times and especially the low wages. 17% of homeworkers today live below the poverty line, compared to 6% for the French population in general. According to the report, 220 million euros would be needed to raise all health care workers at the Smic level.
