October 29, 2019 Joshua Wong will not be able to run in the Hong Kong district elections on November 24: the former leader of the 2014 umbrella movement and among the activists most in view of the protests that have been shaking the city for almost 5 months, has been disqualified because the candidacy does not comply with the requirements of the electoral laws.

The government explained that defending or promoting the former colony's self-determination is contrary to the requirement that a candidate must support the Basic Law and express loyalty to Hong Kong.
