"It is clear that it is sad that it takes longer than we had hoped for," says Karl Lundgren, senior manager of the technology administration in Kungsbacka municipality.

The bridge was blocked off for all car traffic in mid-May in connection with a renovation work. Major damage was discovered, among other things, it turned out that several reinforcing bars inside the concrete have gone off.

Thought the notification was enough

A total renovation was not on the map, so the municipality quickly decided for the bridge to be demolished in the summer of 2020 and be replaced in the summer of 2021. That plan has now turned out not to be done.

- We had hoped it would be enough to report what would be done. But the County Administrative Board found that permits are also needed for water activities from the Land and Environmental Court, says Karl Lundgren, administrative manager at Teknik at the municipality.

Bron's foundation goes down into the Kungsbackaån river. Before measures are implemented, the municipality must have clarity on which rules apply. And getting a permit can take some time.

New bridge in 2022

- It can take between 12 and 15 months. Once we get a permit it will contain a lot of points for demolition and building. And it is difficult to procure before we have obtained a permit, explains Karl Lundgren.

It may take until the summer of 2022 before the bridge is demolished and replaced, ie three years from now.

Has the traffic barrier blocked off in the center?

- It is not noticed as much as we thought it would do. Most of the public transport has been affected, which must take a detour. At the same time, there will be stress on other roads, says Klas Lundgren.

The mayor's bridge can still be used by cyclists and pedestrians.
