At last count, at least 28,000 people are homeless throughout the country after floods in the capital and surrounding areas. The last flood of this magnitude dates back ten years ago.

In the ubiquitous neighborhoods of the Ubangi people move in the water or in the canoe. In a ruined building, some tarpaulins were fired to protect from the rain. Nearly 200 have found refuge here a week ago.

A lady must take care of these 20 children and grandchildren. She cut some cassava leaves that she found. " There is nothing to sleep, we sleep on the sand with children without mosquito nets, nothing to protect them. This brings a lot of diseases. We suffer a lot. We need help quickly , "she says.

No recession before 15 days

Jean-Bosco is a fisherman. Like many, he could not save much. " We are here because of the flood that broke all our houses, all our luggage was swept away. All nets were washed away. There is nothing left, even the plates for women. Food problems are serious; look, today, we have nothing to eat. We men can bear, but children suffer. "

Evacuations were conducted and distributions made by the government. The recession is not expected before 15 days. These floods are due to the conjunction of exceptional and incessant rains for a week and the decadal flood of Oubangui and its tributaries.
