-It is unique that we take such a big while on a whole new neighborhood. It is natural close to public transport and good walking and cycling routes, ”says Erik Nillson (KD), chairman of the city building board.

Karlstad has not had a new district since the 1970s when the Kronoparken started to be built. The municipality is now starting work on extracting district heating, water and sewage to the area before construction can take off.

The first phase includes 800 homes, but the plans are bigger than that. The second stage, which covers the area outside the old airport, is out for consultation and when everything is ready there will be a total of 4000 housing, offices, shops, schools and green areas.

If you wish: when is everything ready?

-Realistic, maybe in 15 years.
