MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Thousands of people gathered in Mexico City on Monday to celebrate the death of relatives and grandparents who died, with performances, marches and masks and clothing inspired by the late Mexican artist Jose Guadalupe Posada.

Festival participants believe that the souls of the dead fall to the ground once a year, seeking to honor them by lighting candles and serving their favorite food and placing wreaths on their graves.

During the festival, Mexicans celebrate music, dance and funeral parades, which they believe connects them with their dead ancestors and their generational heritage.
