US President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, were booed by fans during a baseball tournament in Washington yesterday.

Trump attended the fifth game of the baseball final on the day his administration announced the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the top wanted Pentagon.

After the third half of the match, video cameras on the stadium showed pictures of soldiers present in the stands, but suddenly turned to show Trump.

Fans booed when Trump's picture appeared on a giant screen.

Screams subsided when cameras turned to show soldiers. But fans have been calling for "imprison him," a phrase often echoed by pro-Trump rallies against Hillary Clinton, but now they are often used against the president.

Demonstrators who sat in part of the stands dedicated to the home team also held up banners reading "War Veterans with Isolation Procedures" during the match, referring to a House inquiry into whether Trump abused his office by blocking military aid from Ukraine to pressure it to start an investigation. It benefits him politically.

For weeks, the president has faced impeachment measures by Democrats, as well as widespread bipartisan condemnation of his Syria policy.

It was an unusual move for the president and the first lady, who arrived before him at Nationals Stadium, and sat in a booth in the stands reserved for the home team.

Ahead of the National and Estroz game, Washington manager Dave Martinez said he hoped Trump would "enjoy the game."

Asked whether the team was enthusiastic about the president's arrival, Martinez replied: "Actually we haven't talked about it. We are focusing on baseball."

The first token was carried out by well-known Spanish-American chef Jose Andres, a staunch critic of Trump's immigration policies and post-hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico.
