Mönchengladbach kept the Bundesliga head on Sunday in front of Bayern Munich at the end of the 9th day thanks to a convincing 4-2 home win over Frankfurt.

Borussia's goals were scored by Marcus Thuram, the French international hopeful, son of 1998 world champion Lilian (28th), Sweden's Oscar Wendt (45th + 2), and Swiss internationals Nico Elvedi (75th) and Denis Zakaria (85 ').

Frankfurt replied by Danny da Costa (59) and Martin Hinteregger (79).

Mönchengladbach, who now has 19 points, has widened the gap slightly, after three stifling days where up to nine teams stood in three points. The Rhenans are one point ahead of Bayern Munich (18 pts), two Friborg and Wolfsburg (17 pts). Dortmund is fifth with 16 pts and Leipzig sixth with 15.

On Wednesday, Mönchengladbach will lead the other Borussia, Dortmund, to a German Cup final that leaves a cador on the floor.

Forgetting his bad start in the Europa League (2 points in three games), Mönchengladbach is euphoric in the league, taking full advantage of the procrastination of the big arms, Munich, Dortmund and Leipzig, which are slow.

On Saturday, Bayern triumphed 2-1 against one of the last ranks, Union Berlin. Dortmund brought Schalke's 0-0, after a Ruhr derby that will not fit in the anthologies, and Leipzig lost 2-1 to Freiburg.

Against Frankfurt, Mönchengladbach showed his determination, with a Thuram in verve, who could have scored in the 20th minute a powerful head but too centered on the keeper, and who opened the scoring eight minutes later, in fore-center position alone in front of the empty goal.

The same Thuram is also involved in the action that brings the second goal of his team, just before the break. Arrived from Guingamp in the offseason, he turned 22 at the start of the season with his new club: four goals and two assists in nine days.

Borussia had a big empty run at the hour of play, leaving corridors to attacking opponents. Da Costa scored and the Japanese neo-international Frankfurt, Daichi Kamada, then had three huge opportunities in five minutes. But Nico Elvedi gave the air to the premises by taking the lead of a Benes free kick (3-1, 75th).

Kamada then passed his second assist for Hinteregger (3-2, 79) before Denis Zakaria released his team with a fourth goal five minutes from the end (4-2, 85th).

In the early afternoon, the previous co-leader Wolfsburg let slip a chance to stay in the lead with M'Gladbach. The "Wolves" conceded a sad 0-0 at home against relegated Augsburg. Their only goal of the game, in the 84th minute, was canceled for offside after intervention by the video referee.
