  • PSC. Socialist support for the mobilization of Civil Society

The imminence of the November 10 elections is clouding the unity between the constitutionalist parties that today will mobilize in Barcelona to defend the unity of Spain and say "Enough!" To the independence.

Both sources of Citizens and Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya (PSC) recognize that today, two weeks after the elections, it is not the best day to favor the unity that they believe did exist in the mass mobilizations of 2017, when the constitutionalism took The streets of Barcelona.

For this reason, Catalan Civil Society (SCC), the organization that calls for the march today, is talking with Citizens, the PSC and the PP to reduce the electoral tension before the march.

Some voices of the PP and Cs have criticized the assistance of the PSOE and the PSC to the march - like the orange leader Juan Carlos Girauta , who does not consider the Catalan socialists constitutionalists. Carmen Calvo responded this Saturday from Barcelona that "no one can teach a single lesson in constitutionalism or democracy" to the PSOE. And less than anyone "the rights that have created some of the real or unreal problems" that Catalonia has today.

This tension could move to the street today, since among thousands of citizens they will march Miquel Iceta; the president of the Congress, Meritxell Batet, the one of the Senate, Manuel Cruz, the staff of the PSC or the ministers of Development, José Luis Ábalos, and of Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell.

Socialist sources detract from a possible malaise with the PSC. Civil Society has wanted to reduce the prominence and relevance of politicians precisely to escape a possible politicization.

The march will pass through the center of Barcelona under the motto For concord, for Catalonia: Enough! SCC calls to go white as a symbol of peace. It will start at 12:00 at the crossroads of Passeig de Gracia with Provença and proceed to Aragon Street.

The demonstration aims to emulate the mobilizations of October 2017, especially that of October 8, which is remembered as the first time that the Catalans against independence took to the streets. SCC calls all Catalans "who defend democracy, serenity, build a better future, the rule of law and the constitutional and constitutional framework to go out and say enough to the climate of violence, confrontation and rupture" .

The entity will give the protagonism of the demonstration to civil society and will illustrate it in the header, which will be formed by members of the SCC Board of Directors and by leaders of other constitutional entities, which differs from the manifestations of 2017, when in the Header were the main leaders of the constitutionalist parties.

"Reduced political tone"

In addition to avoiding the presence of politicians at the head, the subsequent act will also have "a reduced political tone", as explained by the president of Civil Society, Fernando Sánchez Costa .

The act will consist of the reading of a manifesto by the president of SCC and members of the entity. In addition, four videos will be broadcast: one starring former PP minister Josep Piqué ; another by the former commissioner of the European Union and former leader of the PSOE Joaquín Almunia ; another by the former secretary general of the PCE Francisco Frutos , and the last by the Minister of Culture of the Community of Madrid Marta Rivera (Cs).

Together with the above-mentioned socialist leaders, the leaders of the PP, Pablo Casado, and Cs, Albert Rivera, as well as their spokesmen in the Congress, the deputies for Barcelona Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo and Inés Arrimadas will be on the march, as well as other leaders of the two center right parties. The former French Prime Minister and Councilor in Barcelona Manuel Valls, Barcelona spokesman Pel Canvi will also attend the march.

Who has not been invited is Vox by express desire of Catalan Civil Society. The Catalan Vox MEP Jorge Buxadé has charged against the demonstration because "it is not a demonstration against separatism and for the unity of Spain, but an act of surrender."
