A 38-year-old man and his 7-year-old son drowned yesterday evening while swimming in sea water in Abu Dhabi's Al Shalila area. Details of the incident indicate that the father was trying to save his son from drowning, but he could not.

The field team, comprising the Abu Dhabi Police Search and Rescue Team, a team from the Biosafety and Coastal Protection Authority, and an aerial team from the National Research and Rescue Center were able to recover the bodies.

Abu Dhabi Police called on the public to abide by the safety instructions and the necessary swimming requirements in the beaches and basins, in order to avoid the occurrence of drowning incidents, warning that the drowning incident may occur within a few minutes.

Abu Dhabi Police urged parents to monitor the whereabouts of children and not to allow them to swim alone without accompanying. When practiced, they should be in the designated areas with supervisors and lifeguards around the clock.
