The US Air Force Central Command has released photos of what it said were a B-B1 bomber landing at Prince Sultan Air Base.

The leadership described the tweet as a long-range strategic bomber capable of hitting any opponent anywhere in the world.

In July, the US military began deploying hundreds of troops, aircraft and missile systems at the Prince Sultan Air Base south of Riyadh, after the Saudi king agreed to receive US troops in the kingdom in anticipation of a military confrontation, amid mounting tensions between the United States and Iran and frequent Houthi attacks.

The NBC network revealed at the time that the US military had begun moving equipment and troops to the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia since June, and would restart it.

US officials handed over their Saudi counterparts to Prince Sultan Air Base at a farewell ceremony on August 26, 2003, a formal announcement of the end of the US military presence in the kingdom.

That base played a key role in Washington's strategy in the region, as it sometimes included more than 60,000 US military personnel.

After more than 16 years of absence and rising tension with Iran, Washington announced the return of US troops to Saudi Arabia, before Riyadh announced it.
