The macabre finding where 39 people were found dead in a truck continues to baffle authorities in the UK. The British TV channel Sky News now tells relatives of several of those suspected to be among the dead that the truck may have been part of a larger convoy.

It was during the night of Wednesday that British authorities found 39 dead people in a container truck in the city of Grays near London. The truck driver was arrested on suspicion of murder and another four people were arrested during Friday. On Saturday, information came out that police in Ireland have arrested another person with links to the truck, reports the AP.

According to Sky News, the truck was to be part of a convoy of three trucks, but that the truck in which the 39 dead people were found was somehow removed from the rest of the convoy.

Unclear citizenship

For a long time it was unclear what nationality the 39 dead people in the truck had, but later on Friday the British police could assume that they were Chinese citizens. Later, this information was changed to citizens of Vietnam.

On Saturday, the AP reported that police were now able to take care of the 39 bodies in the truck - but that very few had identity documents. British police have been in contact with Vietnam's ambassador to try to identify the bodies.
