The discussions will not have been simple. Just a week ago, the dialogue seemed broken between the management of General Motors and the representatives of the powerful car union UAW. This agreement puts an end to the longest strike in the group for 50 years, which paralyzed factories since September 16.

The new contract, which will be valid for the next four years, provides for a wage increase of 3% per year and guarantees for faster integration of temporary workers. A bonus of $ 11,000 per employee and $ 4,500 per interim will also be paid.

General Motors is also committed to investing more than $ 7.5 billion in its plants. This will create 9,000 new jobs.

In exchange, the auto group will be able to close three factories in Michigan, Ohio and Maryland. On the other hand, the Detroit plant, which was threatened with closure, will remain in operation.

Specialized workers will now be able to resume work this Saturday, October 26 to restart the machines and resume production on Monday. The union will begin negotiations for the renewal of social contracts with Ford and Chrysler.
