The number of unemployed (category A) fell slightly in the third quarter (-15,800, -0.4%) to reach 3,617 million people in France, according to figures released Friday by Pôle emploi.

This decrease is almost identical to that of the previous quarter. Over one year, the decline is 2.4%.

The number of jobseekers with and without work (A, B and C) fell a little more strongly, by 0.9%, to 5.836 million (-52,100). Over a year the decline is 2%.

The drop is especially marked for jobseekers in category C (having worked more than 78 hours per month) with a decline of 2.4% (-0.4% over one year).

For seniors (50 and over) in category A in metropolitan France, this quarter recorded a slight decline of 0.3% (-1.3% year on year). On the other hand, unemployment rose by 0.7% among those under 25 (-0.9% over one year).

Long-term unemployment is down: the registered (A, B and C) for more than a year are down 0.8% (-0.4% over one year), or 2,628 million people.

The average number of admissions (A, B and C) decreased by 2.3% (-1% year on year) while the number of outings increased by 3.7% (+ 6.3%). If the entries for contracts decrease by 4.6% this quarter, those for redundancy increase by 6.1%.

By region, category A varies between a decrease of 2.4% in Corsica and an increase of 0.5% in Ile-de-France and Grand-Est.

In addition, the number of unemployed but not required to seek employment (category D, training, illness, job security contract ...) increases by 7.9% to 307,800.
