Leicester edged Southampton 9-0 on Friday, beating the record for the biggest away win in the Premier League, a success that propels them temporarily to second place in the Premier League.

With triples of Ayoze Pérez (19th, 39th, 57th) and Jamie Vardy (45th, 59th, 90th + 4) and goals of Benjamin Chilwell (10th), Yuri Tielemans (17th) and James Maddison (85th), the "Foxes" break a record - the biggest gap outside - established for the first time in ... 1893.

Leicester also beats his own goals record in a game that dates back to the 1920s and is equal to the biggest gap in the modern Premier League (since 1992), home and away, set in 1995 by Manchester United.

The all-time home and away record, 12 goals wide, goes back more than a century. It was made twice, the last in 1909 and the victim was named ... Leicester, corrected outside by Nottingham Forest.

Under heavy rain, Southampton, quickly reduced to 10 after the expulsion of Ryan Bertrand (12th) for a dangerous tackle, suffered his side the heaviest defeat in his history and is now relegated to the difference in goals.

Vardy becomes the only top scorer in the league with 9 goals, one more than Sergio Agüero (Manchester City) and Tammy Abraham (Chelsea).

In the standings, this river victory allows Leicester to temporarily climb to second place with 20 points, one more than Manchester City who receives Aston Villa on Saturday and five less than the untouchable Liverpool leader who receives Tottenham Sunday.
