According to the Chilean Institute of Human Rights, an independent public body, more than 2,500 people were arrested in one week, hundreds of protesters were injured, and five people were reportedly killed by law enforcement.

The main Chilean medical union, which includes Enrique Morales, is alarmed by the seriousness of injuries in hospitals: " The figures we compiled are terrible : at least 43 people were injured in the eyes, with loss of vision , and after-effects for life. "

The Communist MP Carmen Hertz, a former lawyer for victims of the dictatorship in Chile, criticizes the government for having entrusted the military with the maintenance of order, by setting up the state of emergency in the country: " Why the military are they in charge of the security of the citizens when they are not at all trained to that ? "

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet , has confirmed that she will send a delegation to the country, facing accusations of human rights violations. This delegation is expected to arrive in Chile early next week.
