It was in August of this year that a large number of callers heard from SOS about a car driving the wrong side of the road on the E4 off Markaryd.

According to the incident report, a total of 12 people were alerted to a passenger car traveling northbound in a southbound lane for a total of 15 minutes, traveling at a speed of around 100 kilometers per hour.

"Seconds from losing life"

Several of the road users were panicked and refused to avoid a collision with the car.

Police later seized the car when it stopped at a gas station outside and was able to confront the driver: A 77-year-old woman resident in southwest Kronoberg County. According to interrogation, the patrol perceived her as "indifferent and that she thought it was no big deal to drive towards traffic."

Had happened to drive down an exit

According to the woman, she was aware that she was driving in the direction of travel, and acknowledges the deed. It was "not difficult to detect because everyone was blinking" with the high beam, she says in interrogation.

Her explanation that she ended up there was that she must have accidentally driven down the E4 on an exit instead of an exit, and that she then had difficulty getting over to the right side again. She admits she has a hard time driving when it is late at night and dark outside and she is dazzled by the road signs.

Sentenced for similar incident 2018

The woman has already been convicted of gross negligence in traffic when driving against traffic on the E6 in April 2018. Her driver's license was subsequently revoked. However, she denies that she should have known that she was driving without a valid driver's license at the August driving.

She is now charged with gross unlawful driving and gross negligence in traffic.
