It was last week that the protests in Lebanon erupted. The protesters have had enough of corruption in the country and demand, among other things, for the government to step down.

Lebanon's President Michel Aoun promised in a televised speech to the nation on Thursday that he will support new laws to fight corruption. He also said that anyone who stole the country's tax money should be punished.

"Corruption has eaten us down to the bone," said Aoun.

Ready to meet the protesters

He also said there was "a need to review the current government" and that he is ready to meet with representatives of the protesters to hear their demands.

"We will discuss what we can do to achieve what you want together, without causing collapse and chaos," said Michel Aoun.

But the message demanded by protesters and waiting for the government to resign did not come.
