Météo France has placed six southern departments in vigilance orange due to heavy rains expected Wednesday. To the north, the weather looks pretty gray.

The weather on Wednesday will be marked by heavy rains in the south and gray weather on the north-eastern quarter of the country, according to Météo-France forecasts.

Orange alert for six departments

Tuesday, six departments of southern France and Andorra were placed in orange vigil for rains and floods until Wednesday night, with a peak expected in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. Aveyron, Gard and Tarn joined in the late afternoon the Pyrenees-Orientales, Aude, Herault and the Principality of Andorra, alert since Tuesday morning. The three coastal departments have also been placed on orange alert for submersion waves. Of the six departments placed in orange vigilance until the first foothills of the Massif Central, precipitation will strengthen during the night taking a stormy character marked. Storms can then be violent, accompanied by intense electrical activity, strong gusts of wind and hail. Worse still, very strong winds generating strong waves, combined with a significant rise in sea level, will prevent a good flow of rivers to the sea.

Heavy rain south

At dawn, temporarily moderate and stormy rains will affect Aquitaine, Midi-Pyrenees, Languedoc-Roussillon. Inside this rainy system, precipitation will be particularly marked and stormy on the departments of Pyrénées-Orientales, Aude and Ariège, from Hérault to Haute-Garonne, Tarn and Aveyron. This vast disturbed ensemble will shift eastward and will reach Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in the afternoon. The most intense thunderstorms will slowly shift eastward, and sweep the Mediterranean arc during the day to be located in the evening of the Rhone Valley a good third south of the Alps and on the western coast of Corsica. The accumulations will be important and will cause problems of rising watercourses.

Grisaille in the northeast

On the north-east quarter of the country, the gray will be used with frequent patches of low clouds giving a few drops here and there. In the afternoon, a few holes will be likely but the sky will often be cloudy high clouds. From Brittany to the Pays de la Loire, Poitou-Charentes, to Aquitaine in the afternoon, the sky will be mostly covered, showers will occur from mid-day on the southwest.

The south-easterly broad wind will be very strong over the southeast quarter of the country, the gusts will be of the order of 80 to 90 km / h, even 100 km / h in places. These strong winds associated with sea level rise will generate strong waves and submergence phenomena in the most exposed areas. Swirling phenomena will not be excluded as well.

The minimum temperatures will be in the order of 6 to 10 degrees in the northern half of the country, 10 to 15 in the southern half, and 15 to 20 in the Mediterranean. The maximum will range from 14 to 21 degrees from the Channel coast to the Great Blue.
