NATO commented on the agreement of Putin and Erdogan on Syria

It is premature to assess the agreements between the Russian and Turkish leaders Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan regarding the situation in northeast Syria. This was announced at a press conference by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

“I think it’s premature to assess the consequences and results of the agreement reached by Presidents Putin and Erdogan,” he said.

He emphasized that the ceasefire agreement in Syria, which was concluded with US mediation, is the basis for a political solution to the situation.

On October 22, a meeting between Putin and Erdogan took place in Sochi, which lasted more than six hours. According to the President of Russia, the fateful decisions were reached following the meeting.

According to the agreements, from October 23, the Syrian military and the Russian military police are introduced into the zone outside the Turkish operation in Syria.

On October 17, Ankara and Washington agreed to suspend Operation Source of Peace in Syria.

As Stoltenberg noted, this agreement is a step in the right direction to resolve the situation.
