September 14, 2018 Two convicts from the middle of the World trial return to prison after the second-degree sentence that recognized the existence of the mafia-type association. In particular, at the request of the attorney general, the Third Court of Appeal ordered the transfer to prison for two collaborators of Massimo Carminati accused of 416 bis: Matteo Calvio, sentenced to 10 years and 4 months and Riccardo Brugia to 11 years and 4 months. The two were under house arrest.
For the other two defendants who were at risk of incarceration and who were under house arrest, the former municipal and regional councilor Luca Gramazio (sentenced to 8 years and 8 months) and entrepreneur Fabrizio Franco Testa (9 years and 4 months) the Court of Appeal of Rome did not aggravate the precautionary measure. The judges considered that the risks of repetition of the associative crime did not exist since the two had long since broken ties with the association.
