The former undersecretary, who firmly rejects all charges, speaks of "vile attacks, with the sole intention of undermining my commitment". The pressure from the French government to clarify Gozi's position as a consultant to the government of Malta had been increasing hour by hour. After the Italian government, the French one, then the Maltese: the controversy over Gozi's "transnational" position started on Monday, with some revelations from the Times of Malta newspaper raised in great evidence by Le Monde.

Gozi: I leave office to avoid exploitation
"Since last Monday, I am again the subject of press revelations whose sole purpose is to undermine my commitment and my new professional activities. For this reason, I made the decision to resign as of today from my function as person in charge of mission to the Prime Minister of France to avoid any political exploitation, given also the current European situation ". These are the words of Sandro Gozi.
