Bolivian President Evo Morales appeared in front of the press on Wednesday (October 23rd) for a few minutes speech, the first since the violence that has shaken the country following the first round of the presidential election.

With our correspondent in La Paz, Alice Campaignolle

The head of state appeared fighting and determined, ready to defend democracy, he said. He spoke of a coup d'état of the right, with the help of foreign countries. For him, we try to prevent him from remaining in power when it is obvious that he won the elections.

" We are no longer in the time of the colony, we can not impose a president in this way, " he said. He finally called for the mobilization of his supporters, and if he assured that they would not return in the confrontation, the tone of his speech seemed to say something else, rather " we are ready to fight ".

For the moment, it is still missing part of the count of votes, about 5%, and according to the president it is the opponents who prevent the end of this process.

Bolivia is more polarized than ever : on the one hand Evo Morales' supporters, convinced of the victory of the Head of State, on the other his opponents, convinced that electoral fraud is ongoing and that he should be a second round at this presidential election. The president's speech this morning did not really calm the situation.
