The former mayor of Dakar, pardoned and released on September 29, made his first official statement Monday (October 21st) before the press and his activists. If he did not make an announcement about his political future, he recalled his beliefs and priorities for his country.
After his release from prison , Khalifa Sall observed three weeks of silence during which he visited the religious leaders. Three weeks of waiting for impatient activists. Finally, on Monday, Khalifa Sall was greeted with songs and applause. " Without rancor, " he says, despite two and a half years in prison.
After prayers and long thanks, he spoke of his conditions of detention, and recalled the basis of his commitment: " Fidelity to our values has allowed us to resist the relentlessness of power. If we are more resilient, it is thanks to our identity that we must keep intact. We are leftists, we are socialists. "
Pursue his political fight
Khalifa Sall, dissident and excluded from the Socialist Party, says no more about how he intends to continue his political struggle. But it sets out its priorities: education, climate, security, migration and governance.
" It is obvious that the refoundation of governance must be aimed at refocusing the state in its missions. This responsibility requires us to think about young people, women, the elderly, future generations, exploitation and the management of natural resources . "
A real political program for its activists who are targeting the next elections. But Khalifa Sall remains for the time ineligible because of his conviction.
