A 67-year-old man dies after suffering from stings from velvet wasps in Lugo

A 67-year-old farmer, EMR, a neighbor of the parish of Serode, in the municipality of Pantón (Lugo), died on Friday, October 18, due to the multiple bites he suffered as a result of an attack by velvet wasps ( Asian wasps ), according to EFE confirmed the mayor of the town, José Luis Álvarez.

This event occurred when the farmer was clearing a property with his tractor and when approaching with the machinery to a bramble he found a nest of velvet wasps .

Everything seems to indicate that the man got off the tractor and tried to flee to the race, but ended up collapsing unconscious because of the multiple bites of the Asian wasps .

When he was found, the intervention of the emergency services was requested, but nothing could be done to save his life.

José Luis Álvarez said that the victim's tractor had been left on, so a municipal operator, equipped with a special suit, approached the scene to turn it off and confirmed that, in fact, it was a nest of velvet wasps .

" We take out the nests ourselves . We have the suits and the liquid, because if a neighbor discovers a nest of velvet wasps near his house, he cannot be fifteen days in fear waiting to be taken out," said the mayor.

He also said that it has not yet been confirmed whether or not the deceased was allergic to Asian wasp stings.
