The British government could again try to get Monday the support of Parliament.

In case of further rejection, a decision on a possible postponement of the release date, set for 31 October, will have to be taken by the European partners. Germany was open to a "short technical report" of the Brexit date while Paris reaffirmed that "additional delay is in no one's interest".

"From investors' point of view, the adoption of the agreement was simply delayed," Hewson said.

Beyond Brexit, investors have been reassured by the latest positive developments regarding US-China trade negotiations.

On Saturday, China's chief negotiator Liu He, who has the rank of deputy prime minister, said Beijing and Washington had made "substantial progress" in seeking a trade deal.

"China and the United States have made substantial progress in a number of areas, and have put in place an important base for a first trade agreement," he said.
