In early September, the Customs Administration and the Police Department carried out extensive efforts against drugs and illegal weapons. Part of that effort was part of a major international operation involving 28 countries.

The efforts were carried out across the country and drug seizures were extensive - 130 syringes and needles, and over 90,000 drug-classified tablets and cannabis were seized.

In Skåne, there was a particular focus on the ports in Ystad and Trelleborg.

- Our focus areas were Ystad and Trelleborg, among other things, and the effort went really well. Among other things, together with several international authorities, we stopped smuggling 100 kilos of cannabis and 80 kilos of amphetamine from the Netherlands, says Martin Petersson, Deputy Head of Border Protection at the Customs Administration in Malmö.

A total of eight people were arrested for smuggling drugs, alcohol and weapons in southern Sweden.

- There is high-interest traffic down here in the south, as there are several driveway gates. It was an exciting operation with many countries involved, and the results have been very positive, says Martin Petersson.
