A few weeks ago, the first paddle was taken to the Masthuggkajen district. It will lie on a peninsula that is being developed in the river, behind the People's House at Järntorget in Gothenburg. The area is part of the Älvstaden development project, and 1,300 homes and around 5,000 workplaces will be built at Masthuggskajen.

In the district of Masthugget there are already several examples of sharing activities such as bicycle workshop, solidarity refrigerator and toy library. But Sharing City Gothenburg, which is coordinated by the City of Gothenburg, would like to see more initiatives.

- The mast quay should be a mixture of old and new. People or businesses that have an idea that is based on renting, sharing, exchanging, borrowing or giving, we would like to have contact with, says Oskar Henriksson.

Unclear financing

When it comes to financing for those who are going to run sharing operations, it is not quite clear how it will work. Oskar Henriksson says that they are trying to find a model with low rents in the ground floor and premises, as it does not provide any big income to run such operations.

- We work with all property owners and work towards the common goal of being able to have this type of mix in the area, says Oskar Henriksson.

Anyone get a little higher rent to fund sharing activities?

- Yes, or rather so that you see that it becomes a more attractive property and you can take the rent that is a little lower on the ground floor on the floors above simply.
