There will be no return of advertising after 20:00 on public television, even during the broadcast of sports events as advocated by the State Council, said Monday the Minister of Culture, Franck Riester.

"We want to maintain the balance that has been achieved today in advertising in public broadcasting, both on radio and television, so we do not want to open advertising after 20:00 on public television", said Mr Riester on RTL.

In a study revealed Sunday by the Parisian, the Council of State advocates the return of advertising after 20:00 on the channels of France Televisions during the broadcast of sports events, to allow the public group to "finance the purchase of rights of retransmission "of the competitions.

"For sport, there are sponsorship schemes that promote the sport on TV after 20:00 on public channels, without falling into advertising. We do not want to enter advertising," insisted the minister.

In addition, the future audiovisual reform law, expected in the Council of Ministers in late November, provides for the creation of "shared screens" to broadcast advertisements without interrupting the broadcast of sports events.

The goal will be to "allow our compatriots who do not want to lose a piece of the Tour de France, for example, to have an advertisement that will become embedded in the screen," said Riester.

"All this will be done in agreement between the television channels and the sports federations, it is not necessary that it is a nuisance for the televiewer or the listener," he concluded.

The advertising after 20:00 on France Télévisions was banned in 2009 under the impulse of then President Nicolas Sarkozy.
