Sinsheim (dpa) - Seventh instead of first: FC Schalke 04 has missed the leap to the top of the Bundesliga and Andrej Kramaric at the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim helped a great comeback.
The team of coach David Wagner defeated despite clear superiority with 0: 2 (0: 0) in the Kraichgauer. Vice World Champion Kramaric (71st minute) and substitute Ihlas Bebou (85th) scored in front of 29,477 spectators. Thus, the Royal Blues also awarded the chance to Borussia Dortmund next Saturday as front-runners to receive the derby. Leader of the table remains Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Most recently, the Gelsenkirchen were on top of the 28th matchday 2009/2010 under Felix Magath. The Sinsheim Rhein-Neckar-Arena once again proved to be a bad match for Schalke: in twelve matches there was only one victory - the 4: 1 in 2016. For Wagner, who worked at the Hoffenheim Youth Academy from 2007 to 2009, there was one Day after his 48th birthday to celebrate a little. His team also conceded their first away defeat of the season.
The Hoffenheim left two weeks after their 2-1 coup at FC Bayern Munich miss a lot, but had the happy end for themselves. After the 0: 3 against Freiburg and 0: 3 against Gladbach the team of head coach Alfred Schröder could book a home win.
The Schalke had traveled without their young international Suat Serdar (adductor complaints), who made his debut in the 2-2 draw against Argentina in the DFB selection. With special applause greeted the TSG fans Kramaric: The Croat returned to the court after a lengthy knee injury and was celebrated loudly after his goal.
His team was immediately shaken up: Daniel Caligiuri drew the ball in a free kick after three minutes at the crossbar. The guests from Gelsenkirchen showed from the beginning that they wanted to take the chance to lead the table. Robust professionals like Caligiuri have cleared space for Amine Harit: the recently acclaimed Moroccan international, voted "Bundesliga Player of the Month" in September, has repeatedly flashed off his skills.
After 20 minutes Schalke had constricted the opponent properly. Alessandro Schopf shot past Harit after a counterattack just past the gate. The Kraichgauer, however, got little access in midfield. The hardworking Kramaric and Bayern fright Sargis Adamyan barely got on the train. Also Schalke loan Sebastian Rudy was too busy with defensive tasks to boost the game of his eleven. Stefan Posch gave the first sign of life on the offensive after a good half hour: His shot hissed past the post.
With the then strong Bebou for Dennis Geiger brought TSG coach Schreuder after the break an additional striker. In the Schalke came the former Hoffenheim striker Mark Uth. The Royal Blues lacked in the second round the force and precision in the game forward, although the TSG had further trouble raising a purposeful offensive game. A counterattack over Bebou then led to a surprising opening goal: Although the Joker failed to respond strongly to goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, but Kramaric scored to 1: 0. Shortly before the end of the celebrated Bebou met for a counter-attack itself.
