The Clasico between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid scheduled on October 26, one of the most watched matches on the planet, is postponed due to unrest in Catalonia, announced Friday the Spanish federation.
The two clubs "will have to agree on the new date of the match," the federation added in a statement, setting a deadline of Monday at 10:00 am (0800 GMT).
If no agreement is reached between the clubs on that date, the federation will make the decision itself.
Wednesday, the Professional Football League had asked the Federation that the next "Clasico" planned in Barcelona on October 26 can be played in Madrid, "due to exceptional circumstances beyond (his) control". According to the press, both clubs refused.
At this date, the separatist parties and associations, mobilized since the beginning of the week against the condemnation of separatist leaders, are planning to call a big demonstration in Barcelona.
Five days after the heavy prison sentences imposed on nine pro-independence leaders on Monday for their role in the secession attempt in 2017, the situation remains very tense in Catalonia where separatist mobilization has been marked by four nights of violence.
Friday, day of "general strike", "freedom marches" parts of the entire region must converge in Barcelona for a major event scheduled for 15H00 GMT.
