“Just as Russian diplomats travel to the United States to learn more about the country where they live, our diplomats travel to Russia to better understand it,” said Rebecca Ross, spokeswoman for the diplomatic mission in Moscow.

She noted that this is part of normal diplomatic activity.

As the media wrote, on October 14, employees of the American embassy were removed from the Nenoks-Severodvinsk train because of entry into the sensitive territory without permission. The embassy then noted that the diplomats “duly” notified the military department of Russia about the trip.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that diplomats notified of plans to visit Arkhangelsk, "but ended up in the Nenoksa-Severodvinsk train."

At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the situation routine, indicating that American diplomats regularly try to penetrate into the closed areas of the country.
