When the legendary SVT journalist Åke Ortmark passed away last year, his friends donated money on the basis of the new prize in his name. The prize will be awarded annually to a journalist who works in his spirit. This year goes to SVT's Camilla Kvartoft, who, like Åke Ortmark, is a longtime SVT employee.

- It feels really good and a bit dumb. It is a big and nice recognition after my 25 years in Public Service. This branch of journalism that I work with, live broadcast interviews with those in power, there is not much price for, says Camilla Kvartoft in SVT's Morning Study.

Started on the radio

The motivation for the 2019 award reads: “With knowledge, curiosity and brilliance, she seeks answers from the power of major social issues. She has a breadth and persistence that leads her far. "

Camilla Kvartoft has worked as a journalist for several decades and began her career on Sweden's radio, where she was among other things and started P1 morning and was the program manager for Studio One. For the SVT audience, she is known as the program manager for Veckan's crime and Agenda, where she has been since 2010 and 2011. She has also been the program manager for Aktuellt, who was also Åke Ortmark.

A combination of curiosity and stubbornness

DN's editor-in-chief Peter Volodarski, who sits in the jury for the award, describes Åke Ortmark as a legend in Swedish television journalism who paved the way for today's so-called shooting iron journalism where people have been questioning power holders.

- Åke showed that you have to be tough and not give up, just like Camilla is. She combines kindness and determination, as well as curiosity and stubbornness. Without knowledge and facts it will not be good and so has Camilla, says Peter Wolodarski in the Morning Studio.

- Reading on is very important, and I've had the desire to work with programs where you have that time, says Camilla Kvartoft, adding:

- Without editors with whom you have role play and can twist and turn everything around and all reporters and colleagues would not go - it is a group work.
