Since the regions in Uppsala, Örebro, Västmanland, Dalarna and Sörmland changed supplier of medical supplies on October 1, there has been chaos as they have not received the consumables they need for care. Planned operations have been canceled in Uppsala, Dalarna and Västmanland, and three out of five regions are still in staff positions.

On Friday, the regional staff situation in Uppsala was reduced, but the Academic Hospital maintains the staff situation locally.

The assessment is that the strained situation will have effects on the care queues. There is even a risk of patient injury, according to Mikael Köhler.

- So far we do not see any stability and hardly any improvement at all, says chief physician Mikael Köhler and continues:

- Having a dialogue with the supplier, ordering from elsewhere and saving on equipment is not enough.

So far 97 operations have been canceled in Uppsala.

Deep confidence gap

It also appears that there is a confidence gap between Region Uppsala and the pharmacy supplier.

- We take into account that the supplier will not be able to deliver what is needed in the next three months, says Mikael Köhler.

Björn Kardell, head of transport and logistics at Uppsala region, says that they have had to "wear out" to get goods, even though the quantities are not what they hoped for.

- We have gathered power to be able to distribute to the hospital as soon as possible, but it is a little difficult to get delivery notice.

Help from other regions

The affected regions have received relief from other parts of the country.

Uppsala Academic Hospital has been assisted by Stockholm County Council with orders and distribution.
