Ali Darwish came to Sweden and to the accommodation in Brännebrona in November 2015. There were a couple of hundred places. The largest accommodation in Götene was Lundsbrunn's health resort with 700 residents. Both are closed today. The spa has reopened as a conference facility and Brännebrona has become a hostel.

- You can't stay home and wait for a person to come and knock on the door and say "come and work". That never happens, says Ali Darwish.

- I found an apartment in Lidköping that I think is a nice city and previously worked in a project where I helped others who came to Sweden.

Thrives at the pharmacy

Then Ali Darwish contacted the pharmacy in Lidköping where he now works.

- I simply went here and asked about jobs. Then they contacted me and I really enjoy working here and getting to work with what has been my profession.

Ali Darwish is a trained pharmacist, but that training does not apply automatically in Sweden. So that's why he now works with other tasks at the pharmacy in Lidköping where he works. But he plans to continue his education to get the right document on his skills here in Sweden.

If you could travel back in time and give yourself advice in 2015 - what would you say?

- Dare to believe that it will be good!

With jobs and friends, life has become really good for Ali Darwish. Yet, these days, their lives are eclipsed by the concerns of relatives in Syria during the Turkish offensive. When we meet Ali, he has not heard from them in a few days, but thinks they should be safe.
