In Moscow, the deputy head of the department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Dorogomilovsky district and his deputy were detained while receiving a bribe of 3.5 million rubles, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on its website. At the same time, the names of officers are not given.

“On October 17, in Moscow, upon receiving from a citizen 3.5 million rubles, the deputy head of the Russian Interior Ministry’s department in the Dorogomilovo district, the police chief, and his deputy, the head of the criminal investigation department, were detained,” the statement said.

It is noted that, according to preliminary information, the total amount of the bribe was to be 12 million rubles, and 3.5 million - only the first part. Materials regarding the detainees were transferred to the investigating authorities, and law enforcement officers establish all participants in the criminal scheme.

If the guilt of the officers is proved, then they will first be fired from the organs, and then they will be punished by law. In this case, their leaders will also be held accountable.

“In case of confirmation of guilt, the detained police officers will be dismissed from the internal affairs bodies for negative reasons and will be punished by law, and their leaders will be brought to strict disciplinary responsibility,” the Interior Ministry emphasized.

According to the information provided on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the head of the department for the Dorogomilovo district is police colonel Merab Davitadze. Currently, the leadership of the Moscow central is conducting an internal audit.

“FSB officers began investigative measures”

It is noted that in checking the information on the involvement of the deputy head of the department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Dorogomilovsky district and his deputy in corruption, the FSB department in Moscow and the Moscow region took part. A TASS source in law enforcement said that employees of the Federal Security Service were conducting searches in the Department of the Interior in the western administrative district of Moscow, which includes the Dorogomilovo district.

“At present, the FSB officers have begun investigative measures at the Internal Affairs Directorate of the company. The documentation is being studied, which may be related to the detention of the leadership of the Dorogomilovo police department, ”the agency’s interlocutor said.

The source also said that the head of one of the operational-search units of the Internal Affairs Directorate in the CJSC was questioned. However, the TASS interlocutor emphasized that he was not detained.

Criminal cases against the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs

Earlier, on September 25, in Moscow, First Deputy Head of the Main Directorate for Public Order Protection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Major General Alexander Melnikov, was sent under arrest. He is charged with a crime under part 3 of article 30 (attempted crime) and part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code (fraud committed by a group of persons or on a particularly large scale). A criminal case was initiated on the basis of the materials of the internal security unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

RIA Novosti, with reference to the case materials, reported that he was given a bribe of 100 million rubles for closing a criminal case from a defendant named Panyushkin. The agency said that in August an investigative experiment was conducted, in which three potential intermediaries were detained.

During the investigation, the court sent Melnikov to jail before November 24. On October 14, an appeal court was held, during which the defense tried to change the preventive measure to house arrest. However, the Moscow City Court refused to satisfy the appeal.

Melnikov is being held in the special unit of the capital’s pre-trial detention center No. 4 “Medved” - other arrested law enforcement officers are also contained there.

Then the head of the economic security and anti-corruption department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Yekaterinburg, Eduard Voronin, was accused of patronizing the gambling business. He passes as an accused under Art. 286 of the Criminal Code (abuse of power).

An investigation is still underway against him, but he has already been dismissed from the authorities due to the loss of confidence. Voronin himself denies the blame.
